Are you an IT professional? If so then the odds are that you are currently a card carrying member of some form of CompTIA certification. Depending on how long you have been in IT you may or may not have experienced the glory days of lifetime certifications. Well, welcome to the new world order where your certifications are good for three years.
What is the busy IT professional to do? Sure you can retake each certification every three years or you can enroll into the Continuing Education (CE) Program with CompTIA. In fact, if you work for the Department of Defense you do not have a choice. You will enroll in CE and that is mandated by DoD 8570.01-M.
To give you an idea of what is required, if you have a Security+ certification you will need 50 CE credits over your three year period, Cloud+ will require 50 as well. Meanwhile, Mobility+, Network+ and A+ all require different levels of credits to stay current.
In order to earn Continuing Education credits you might have to take training courses, attend workshops, participate in industry events or retake your current certification exam. However, there is a fun and exciting way to earn CE credits as well. Publishing a Relevant Industry Article, White Paper, Blog Post or Book can earn you Continuing Education credit and it require zero out of pocket expense and allows you to use knowledge you already have to meet the requirement.
