Best Mobile Browsers for College Online Posting - Nerdy Nerd Nerdz:: Live it, Learn it, Apply it!

Sometimes I am chilling or relaxing somewhere far far away from the nearest computer and I feel like posting a quick response to my college forum, via mobile phone. The problem – If you don’t own an I Phone you will find it close to impossible to post a quick response on your online College Discussion Board via Mobile.  If you own a Windows Mobile Device, Android, or Blackberry – you have a few options available for navigating through your discussion and individual  thread. Below are the most popular mobile web browsers and the compatibility issues you will more than likely experience while using them. Sometimes I wish I wouldn’t have sold my IPhone, arrrrrrggg.  If you wish to maintain your sanity, I suggest you invest in a Net-book.  Look for Windows Mobile 7 to solve some the browser issues, I wish I could say the same for Blackberry – R.I.P.  hehehehe

Mobile Browsers from Worst to Better than Worst

1. Internet Explorer Mobile for Windows Mobile – The worst browser ever ! Don’t even think about posting to your forum. This mobile browser only supports mobile sites.  By the time you post to your forum the semester will be over.

2. Opera Mini – opera mini is currently the best browser from a visual standpoint yet  mediocre flash capabilities. The updated version is probably the best browser for posting to online forums via mobile, and I highly recommend. Opera mini has also eliminated the separate pop up window for user text comments/input , this was another disadvantage of the browser.  The new Opera browser is fully touch and will work best for a student using an Android or Smart Phone.

3. SkyFire – Probably the best functioning browser ever created but it is really slow when it comes to speed and response.  Page Navigation is fast but trying to page scroll up and down with or without a stylus is impossible.  The SkyFire browser is best for watching videos and music on a 3g/4g connection.

stay tuned for app compatibility updates . – Will

Skyfire 2.0 beta has a useragent button on the toolbar that allows the user to toggle what’s reported to webpages between “android” and “desktop”… or “iphone”. Forcing iPhone mode before logging into the UP website will bring up the streamlined iPhone version.

Update: Follow the instructions exactly at http://lifehacker.com/5547037/change-the-user-agent-on-an-android-phone to cause your built-in browser to report as an iPhone, which triggers the iPhone rendering of the Phoenix site. Seems to be working fine.

    Hey guys,
I am a University of Phoenix student. I can use Opera Mini to post, but it is a cumbersome (like six to ten minutes) process, not to mention the think time to develop the response. If I phone has an app for this school, it is only a matter of time until one is developed for the android platform. Think of all the consumers that will want Phoenix that have androids. Around the rumor mill (per my academic counselor), there will be one by the end of 2011. This is a rumor by a third party so no guarantee on my part. Just hold in there and manage with Opera until one comes out.

    Aaron,

How do you get the Opera Mini to post in University of Phoenix? I tried but it will not let me scroll the posts. I was also told about the android version of Phoenix, but was not given a date it might be published.
