ECMC, a guarantor of federal student loans has experienced a data theft from one of their facilities in Oak-dale, MN. This may affect you if you ever received a federal student loan. Why is this a big deal? The information that was stolen includes information about your loan, including your name, Social Security Number, address, and your date of birth. You can pretty much imagine what a criminal could do to your credit with such information.

On March 21, 2010 approximately 3,3 million individuals personal information was stolen, and may be affected by this theft. So far there have been no reports that the information has been accessed, misused, or further disclosed.
